Growth through acquisition is an ongoing trend in healthcare. It lets organizations like Cedars-Sinai expand branded services into new markets quickly while improving performance and eliminating excess administrative costs. It also means inheriting another organization’s business systems, and every one of them has to land somewhere.

Cedars-Sinai acquired a regional hospital to expand its reach within Southern California, and quickly ran into the complexity of integrating the two organizations’ many business systems. Patient-related systems took priority for standardization, with administrative systems receiving less attention. But lower priority didn’t mean no pressure. The conversion of administrative and financial systems could not be allowed to delay work on the higher-priority patient system.

Cedars-Sinai turned to Mythics to develop a strategic, repeatable approach for converting and integrating financial data in phases. At the center of the solution was a system-agnostic, flexible mapping technology that handled both historical data conversion and ongoing integrations from legacy systems. Mythics also built a phased roadmap for retiring those legacy systems over time and trained new users on the financial system.

Services provided:

  • Phased Legacy System Deprecation Roadmap
  • Financial Data Conversion and Mapping Toolset
  • Ongoing Legacy System Integrations
  • New User Training
  • Eight years of data converted into eight weeks. Mythics deployed the Mapper toolset to convert eight years of detailed financial transactions.
  • Gradual, low-risk legacy retirement. The same toolset ran interfaces to legacy systems, allowing Cedars-Sinai to deprecate each source when ready.
  • A single source of truth. Consolidated current and historical financial reporting now occurs in a single system, and the toolset is repeatable and configurable for future acquisitions.
