A Top Business School Migrates Its Data Center to Oracle Cloud in Three Days
One of the world’s leading universities needed to move its business school’s data center to Oracle Cloud, on a tight timeline, without compromising the security standards its global reputation demands. The school’s technology leadership wanted to give IT teams the freedom to deploy next-generation cloud technologies while maintaining the highest standards of security and data protection.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
The school’s on-premises Oracle Database Appliances had reached end of life. A migration was necessary, but the window to do it was narrow, the databases were large, and security requirements were non-negotiable.
The Challenge
The business school needed to retire aging on-premises Oracle Database Appliances and move to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, but the migration had to happen during a tight summer window around active classes. Moving a production system of that scale in so little time was a significant challenge.
Security was equally critical. The school required GDPR compliance for European students, a zero-trust security architecture, and migration of a complex Oracle Enterprise Manager environment with dozens of scripts and monitoring targets. At the same time, leadership wanted to embrace automation and infrastructure-as-code from the start, not as an afterthought.
“They were really clear in their scope of work from the get-go,” said Laura Bond-Harris, Mythics Senior Program Manager. “They wanted automation and infrastructure-as-code.”
The Solution
Mythics migrated the school’s environment to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure using an automation platform built around infrastructure-as-code, completing the migration in three business days.
The project included establishing four OCI environments (development, staging, production, and disaster recovery), migrating four databases via Oracle Database Appliance lift-and-shift, and cloning the existing Oracle Enterprise Manager environment to monitor approximately 65 targets in the cloud.
Mythics installed and configured GoldenGate, Data Guard, and Veridata, and implemented a full security stack including Oracle Data Safe, Cloud Guard, and Splunk integration for log monitoring. A zero-trust security architecture was applied throughout.
“The client was happy with the results and stated, ‘We have never seen a project move so quickly,'” said Praveen Mogili, Vice President for DevOps and Cloud Engineering at Mythics.
Services provided:
- Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Migration
- Oracle Database Appliance Lift-and-Shift
- Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloning and Cloud Configuration
- GoldenGate, Data Guard, and Veridata Implementation
- Zero-Trust Security Architecture
- Oracle Data Safe, Cloud Guard, and Splunk Integration
- Infrastructure-as-Code and Automation Platform
The Results
- Three-day migration of a complex, production data center environment
- Significantly improved security through zero-trust architecture, encryption by default, and full Oracle security tooling
- Greater flexibility to spin up, test, and tear down environments quickly without large capital expenditure
- Simplified management with patching, cloning, and environment management handled through automation
- Foundation for ongoing innovation with infrastructure-as-code, enabling repeatable, scalable cloud deployments
“Every time we wanted to try something or test something or do the next iteration, it was very successful,” Bond-Harris said.
